Brown paper packages

While I don’t usually open mail at KA anymore, on lucky days like today, I get to receive the packages (thank you Maria von Trapp - “brown paper packages tied up with string” ARE my favorite things).  We tend to get a lot more interesting stuff at KA than at my own house.  I could go on and on about the awesome testimonials we get (check out: www.khanacademy.org/stories for those) or the heartwarming donation letters (thank you to the students who send their allowances!), however, today I’d like to gush about the boxes of things we receive.

Just today I opened 8 boxes.  Eight!  The UPS, USPS, and FedEx must be fans, and I would like to think that Amazon.com likes us as much as we like them and their prime shipping.

What interesting things are inside these boxes??

One of my favorite boxes of all time was when a fan sent Sal his science fiction book collection.  It had some gems, but my favorite part was the letter he sent pointing out which books were his favorites to explain why they were so dog-eared and how one novel had lost its front cover.

So why write about this today?  Well, of the eight boxes, my favorite is this awesome award that showed up without an accompanying note.  I was a fan of Sorry! as a kid, so a giant silver version of a Sorry! game piece is pretty stellar.  I’m hoping the award isn’t implying “Sorry you got an award”, but still it kinda made my day (in addition to Ben Alpert agreeing to partner with me at the upcoming healthy hack-a-thon!).  Every day feels like Christmas for me at KA (sorry if you don’t celebrate it), so seemed worth writing about one of things that made it feel like Christmas today!
